The phenomenon that is the side chick has existed for as long as possible. I'm talking about early BC's here; I could take us all the way back to the creation story itself, but in the words of the great Madam Sweet Brown; Ain't nobody got time fo' dat.

A side chick is like the icing on the cake, the salad in your fried rice, the crayfish in your draw soup and so on (I know I like to use weird analogies; I'm sorry). She is that little extra that you don't really need, but you still want anyway just because you can. Now, the side chick is feared the world over by all main chicks and Olivia Pope haters alike for reasons ranging from the fact of their simple existence to the thought of the things they are doing and will do to have/keep the men.

Most men will admit to having side chicks just because they can, while others do it because of the thrill having a clandestine relationship can give you. Another reason is because of the level of honesty, or should I say freedom that usually exists in a relationship with a side chick. You don't have to tell her you're working late, when all you're really doing is just hanging with the second side chick, or on special occasions; your main chick.

Anyways, because I am not a man and therefore not an expert on the issue of side chicks, I decided to ask some of my male friends and this is what they think.

- "Side chicks are honestly something; it's exhausting having to tell lies to hide stuff. But then, considering the fact that I still find myself having them, it just boils down to breeding nature of a guy. Guys are breeders. Cheating comes naturally and effortlessly, so side chicks are almost inevitable for an average guy. It's not as if it denotes any form of weakness or irresponsibility on the side of the guy. It just has more to do with the fact that every guy wants a blend of character in a girl which they'll never get from one single lady."

- "For most guys, the sex is worth all troubles. But basically, it is the freedom and the feeling of being able to two-time a girl that accounts for it."

- " You don't have a chick in the first place. If you do there's no need for one on the side."

- "It's not healthy. It might be fun for the guy when he's got one, but most times it usually comes to haunt him. On the other hand, she could end up being the main chick if he opens his eyes. "

Other replies ranging from a fevered "I reject in Jesus' name" to a very cocky "I love 'em; always have, always will" came in on this survey, but they can't all be put up here. So we want to know your thoughts on this topic. What do you think about the idea of a side chick? Do you "dig it"? Would you do her it? Are side chicks a necessary evil? Please, do not hesitate to share what you think in the comment section.

Thank you.
